Chester Illinois the home of Popeye ,,,then on North to Alton

Me and Butch had another great trip this week ,,this time we had no clue where we were headed until hours before we left the morning of 4-18-12 ,,, Butch suggested that we head down to Chester Illinois on the way there some metal Statues of kids playing caught my eye in Mascoutah Illinois ,,I thought it was a neat old small town

Back on the road again we spot a hellecopter flying super low what seemed like 20 foot above the highway so we go investigate that ,,,It was crop dusting,,so a few miles down the road we stop at the Sparta airport and watch a few of these planes put more of there cancer in the planes and take back off to spray down the fields

Back on the road we finally make it to Chester ,,,we roll  through town looking for wimpys burger stop with no luck so we head down to the river to the bridge and Popeye statue
This is the first thing I see as I get out of the car

Pierre Menard was the first lieutenant governor of Illinois, his house was built between 1800 and 1802. It is a good example of French Colonial architecture. The home is presently managed by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.

then back on the road we headed to Alton for some fast Eddies just in time for dinner I was starving we shot a few pics along the way

After dinner we spent some time shooting some night photos in and around Alton

Nauvoo Illinois and a hint of Hannibal Mo.

This weeks trip was a interesting trip to the town of Nauvoo Illinois
Nauvoo is known for its Mormon past,,, the Mormons set up town there after they were run out of Missouri and Iowa  and were eventually run out of Nauvoo to finally find a home in Salt Lake City Utah,,they have come back and rebuilt there town as a historic area
Me and Butch had a good time it really is a nice town ,,,we just knew they wanted to convert us

Then we went to Hannibal only took a few pics there,,note these pics were all taken with my Canon powershot sx40hs its a very good point and shoot camera the best camera in its price range as far as I'm concerned
